The Musical Human   a talk by Professor Michael Spitzer

Music fills our lives.  How we have created, performed and listened to music throughout history has defined what our species is and how we understand who we are. Yet music remains an overlooked part of our origin story. Renowned musicologist Michael Spitzer boldly makes the case that music is the most important thing we have ever done. It is a fundamental part of what makes us human. Michael's book 'The Musical Human: A History of Life on Earth' was a recent Radio 4 Book of the Week.

Mae cerddoriaeth yn llenwi’n bywydau. Fe’n diffiniwyd ni a’n rhiwogaeth gan y ffyrdd y crewyd, y perfformiwyd ac y gwrandawyd ar gerddoriaeth ar hyd yr oesoedd a sut y deallwn pwy ydyn ni. Ac eto, diystyrwyd cerddoriaeth wrth feddwl am stori ein tarddiad. Haera’r cerddolegwr adnabyddus, Michael Spitzer, taw cerddoriaeth yw’r peth pwysicaf a grëwyd. Mae’n ran sylfaenol o’n bodolaeth ni fel pobl. Yn ddiweddar, roedd llyfr Michael, ‘The Musical Human: A History of Life on Earth’ yn Llyfr yr Wythnos ar BBC Radio 4.
